ONE ATLAS ASSIGNMENT DUE SUNDAY (June 3th)


  1. 1)Using the Minnesota Atlas Exercise

    Be sure to label  #1 as Your Last Name ‘Minnesota Atlas Exercise’

-Click on the ‘Using the MN Atlas’ link on the geo-site.net course outline

-Determine which atlas edition you have based on the two layouts shown

-Open the appropriate questions for your atlas (found above the layout)

-Answer the questions (use the links in Student Support Box and use Internet to search for terms)

-You may type the answers directly on the document or type the answers on a different document

-Upload your answers in the geo-site.net drop box (do not use the D2L dropbox)

-For full points, you need to answer the majority of the questions....(at least 9 out of 10)

          if you can not figure out a couple of answers it is okay


-You can also print out the questions and maps

            ...then write the answers on the paper

                    ...then scan or take a clear picture of your answers

                            ...try to incorporate all images into one document

   -Find the video in the list of videos

    -Download the file (around 250mb)

    -This file plays in Quick Time

            -If it does not appear as a quick time file, open ‘all files’ in Quick Time to find it

            -This is because it is a .m4v file instead of a .mov file....both work in Quick time

    -This video can be found in the college library and many public libraries

    -Answer the questions you printed out in the exercise above.

In the ‘Supporting Information for Activity’ box, there is a Genealogy lecture. Use it to help you create you own lecture about migration and settlement in Minnesota.  


In the classroom, the seated students drew the routes from overseas and in the United States (which is why there is a blank map of the U.S. in the PPT), including approximate dates of how their ancestors finally arrived in Minnesota.  Try to incorporate a similar map in your PPT.

3.2    EXPLORING MINNESOTA MAPS


-Click on the ‘EX: EXPLORING MN MAPS’ link on the geo-site.net course outline

-You do not need to Download or Print the Bluff Country Handout (it is only used in the classroom)

-You do need to Print or Download the Bluff Region Stream Map

     Put the places indicated on the map and study it.

     This map will help you understand the exercise if you locate the places on the map first


-In the Student Support Materials:

-Open or print the map of modern streams in Minnesota...study and become familiar with rivers

-The activity is a link to a .doc or .pdf  of maps (do not print as they are 11”x17”)


-Open the document and you will see numerous maps starting in French and later in English

      (The maps start  from the oldest maps to the more recent maps of the area)

-Answer the questions at the bottom of each map on a separate page.


-One of the reasons for this activity is to see how  early Minnesota appeared on maps

-These maps are inaccurate compared to today, so you need to be familiar with modern locations

-Answer the questions found on the bottom of each map on a separate document

-Name your document as ‘Your Last Name’ Exercise Exploring MN Maps

-The first maps are by the French....then created by the British....then by the new United States


-HINT

     -pay attention to the modern stream map as to which rivers flow into the Mississippi River

     -what is the location asked about compared to St Anthony Falls....above or below

     -sound out the words....say them quickly (ie: Oui is yes in French and is pronounced as ‘we’)

     -most maps are just of SE Minnesota...one includes a slightly larger area


-Upload your answers in the geo-site.net drop box (do not use the D2L dropbox)

     -WATCH ONLY THE FIRST 20 MINUTES OF  #2
